What do I wear to Class?

This is a question I am frequently asked. There is no specific or special uniform that is required for Belly Dance Classes. Students should wear clothes that are comfortable for them to move in and will not hinder their ability to stretch. Students may purchase a hipscarf from the studio or elsewhere to wear to class. Unless otherwise noted, there are no specific requirements for coin scarves for class, but they sure make it a lot more fun! Please also bring water to drink.

Performance Gear

If you are interested in performing at Belly Dance Shows and Haflas, there are some basic items that you should begin to collect as you progress in dance.

Belly Dance Performance Basics for Students:

1. Basic Bra and Belt set (hip scarf and coin top also acceptable)

2. Costume Cover (galabaya or caftan)

3. Nude colored ballet slippers or Egyptian gold/silver slippers

4. A veil (2.5m of chiffon)

5. A skirt (circle, sheath, mermaid, etc doesn't matter, but must be ankle length)

6. One either gold tone or silver tone set (necklace and earrings) of rhinestone costume jewellery

7. Hair Accoutrement

Performance Bag

As you begin to perform more, hunting for various bits and bobs and trying to remember where you put things can become a hassle. Having a prepacked performance bag can come in handy. It should include:

1. Bitchin' Stitches Sew Repair kit (needle, thread, pins, small scissors)

2. Safety Pins (various sizes)

3. Comb/brush

4. Deodorant/hairspray/perfume

5. Performance Shoes (nude ballet slippers or ballroom, while this is optional, a pair of nude ballet slippers is a great item to have to protect the feet in outdoor festivals or restaurants)

6. Back-up Music disc

7. Dental floss, mouthwash, etc.

8. Dance cover up to cover costume when not performing
